Common questions

Why choose ethanol extraction over water extraction?
Ethanol dissolves a broader range of the aromatic compounds in a cured bean, including several that water does not carry well, and it survives oven temperatures better. Where alcohol is acceptable, it generally gives more aromatic depth in baked goods.
Is this product Halal certified?
No. This extract contains food-grade ethanol. Our Halal-certified option is Vanilla Extract Non-Alcohol, which is water-extracted with no ethanol at any stage.
What HS code applies to vanilla extract?
Vanilla oleoresins and extracts fall under HS code 1302.19.90. Note that our Vanilla Essence is classified differently, under 2106.90.00, because it is a formulated flavouring preparation.
